History
Originally named Pacific Biometrics, Inc., PBI was founded in 1989 as a spin-off from the University of Washington Lipid Research Center, Dept. of Medicine.
At this time Dr. Elizabeth Leary and Russ Warnick, the founders of PBI, had a vision for global standardization of lipid testing. When the CDC initiated the Cholesterol Reference Method Laboratory Network (CRMLN), PBI became a member of this network, one of only 3 labs in the US and 11 globally. For 20 years, PBI provided lipid reference and standardization services for diagnostic manufacturers and clinical laboratories.
During this time, PBI began consulting with Pharmaceutical companies to support drug development. This clinical trial support has become one of the core businesses of PBI. Traditionally, PBI’s therapeutic focus has been Cardiovascular Risk, Musculoskeletal Disease, Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome and Inflammation. Today, PBI provides biomarker support across a wide range of therapeutic areas.
PBI’s expertise in assay development has allowed it to establish long-term, collaborative relationships with many diagnostic manufacturers. This access to novel biomarkers allows PBI scientists to be the first to gain experience and the first to offer cutting-edge technology to its clients.
In 2007, PBI expanded its capabilities into immunogenicity testing, cell based assay services, and novel biomarker development. In 2009, PBI officially changed its name to Pacific Biomarkers, Inc. to better reflect our business.
The same high standard of quality required for CRMLN lab status has carried over into every facet of biomarker services that PBI now provides. PBI combines academic excellence with the efficiency and productivity that the industry demands. The result is an organization that delivers client focused biomarker laboratory services.
